Building Sustainable Cities of the Future
Co-Chairs: W. "RP" Raghupathi, Ph.D and Evangelos Katsamakas, Ph.D
Fordham Center for Digital Transformation
Cities applying innovative technology solutions in such areas as building design, energy, environment, health care, transportation, urban planning and others are recognized as smart cities. The key objective is to transform cities through technology today to make them more habitable and sustainable, thereby offering a superior quality of life for its citizens. This symposium brings together faculty, students, practitioners, companies, non-profit agencies and city government to discuss the contemporary opportunities and challenges in the application of digital & information and communication technologies in building smart cities. Providing a framework for efficient automation and transformation, interconnection, intelligence, collaboration, commerce, novel services and innovation, digital technologies can be the operating system of the smart city of the future. The overall goal is to promote social justice. New York City provides us with this great opportunity to examine the concept of a smart city.
Keynote speakers and panelists from academia, industry, and government will share their expertise and understanding in the design and development of smart cities and identify the grand challenges, opportunities and solutions. The symposium is an essential event to those interested in the transformation of cities into sustainable cities via smart city solutions.
